Job Summary Captains are responsible for the safe conduct of flights to which they are assigned. When assigned to a flight, the captain has the final authority in the operation of the aircraft. Captains must ensure compliance with all federal, state, local and foreign regulations, as well as the policies and procedures specified in the company operations manual. Captains are the company’s most visible representative to the passengers and must act with tact and decorum, while ensuring an efficient and safe operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities as Captain
- Act as Pilot in Command (PIC) of flights for which the pilot has been assigned.
- Wear the company issued uniform and comply with the uniform policy.
- Comply with schedules and other directives governing the aircraft’s operation.
- Operate the assigned aircraft in accordance with Aircraft Flight Manual and all Company manuals.
- Ensure that preflight inspections are performed.
- Perform all company assigned duties in accordance with company manuals, memos, and policies.
- Conduct diligent preflight planning and prepare flight plans.
- Provide excellent customer service to passengers.
- Comply with schedules and other directives governing the aircraft’s operation.
- Ensure that the aircraft is clean and prepared for flight, with all of the necessary provisions on board, for the safety and comfort of the passengers.
- Review and calculate the aircraft’s weight and balance, fuel on board and performance charts.
- Use checklists and practice impeccable cockpit resource management.
- Supervise the first officer and flight attendant in any duties necessary for smooth, safe, and efficient operation of the aircraft.
- Coordinate the functioning of all crewmembers assigned to the flight.
- Monitor crew performance, share knowledge, and evaluate their potential for advancement.
- Make decisions necessary to start, delay or cancel flights and deviate from planned route or destination when operating conditions dictate.
- Remain technically proficient and knowledgeable on the assigned aircraft.
- Remain knowledgeable on FAR’s, Operation Specifications and Airman Information Manual procedures.
- Assist with the training of new hires and the upgrading of crew members.
- Handle passenger baggage and cargo.
- Assist passengers with their ground transportation needs.
- Revise published materials.
- Maintain type rating requirements in your assigned aircraft.
- Comply with, and participate in, Meridian’s SMS and OSHA training and programs.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. - ATP License, First Class medical and type-rated in the aircraft.
- A minimum of 500 hours in type.
- Logged a minimum of 5,000 hours of total time.
- Logged a minimum of 2,500 turbine time.
- Prior Part 121 or 135 experience preferred.
- Willing to live within 1 hour of base Airport.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
- No FAA violations, incidents, or accidents within the last 6 years.
- Must meet the standards for ARGUS and Wyvern PIC approvals.
